Tomorrow was going to be a stressful day. Shin really wasn't all that sure *why* it would be stressful, but there was a lot of running about and last-minute details, and everyone seemed to be stressed, so that made him a little stressed, too.

He sighed faintly, padding barefoot around the apartment he and Makoto shared, looking over all the arrangements for the coming morning and checking the lists she'd left out for him. It wasn't that he was apathetic about it; he just wished it could be a little simpler. Even his parents were making a big deal about it. Maybe their 'Big Day' was actually for the benefit of everyone else? Well, that was fine, too. It worked out the same in the end.

Under some unspoken agreement he was sleeping on the couch tonight. Never mind that they'd been living together for more than a year; there was a shiver of ceremony in the air already that begged to be recognised, and so Shin would spent his last unmarried night alone, waiting for the morning when he could hold his love tightly again. It felt...weird. Even with Makoto still in the same house. He wasn't used to any distance between them - wasn't that why they were getting married? To formalise the blending of their lives' edges? Feeling oddly out of sorts, Shin wandered to the bathroom. He may as well get ready for bed, even if he wasn't certain sleep would come tonight.

Makoto stepped out, flinching in surprise when she saw him, turning her head bashfully. She hadn't been this shy around him in years, and Shin marveled at it. Gently, he tugged her to him, nodding at the soft "Shin," she warned him with, loosely wrapping his arms around her waist. He wasn't going to break their unspoken pact. He just missed their heartbeats touching.

Her hands came up to grasp lightly at his singlet, forehead against his shoulder with a soft sigh of her own. Shin closed his eyes, smelling the pleasant floral scent of freshly-shampoo'd hair and the minty freshness of toothpaste. They stayed close and still for a time, just long enough to bring calm to each other, just long enough for the heartbeats to beat in time again. Then Makoto began to pull away, and Shin let her go.

She looked up at him, eyes searching for something in his, finding comfort when it was there. She gave him a shaky smile, and it startled Shin to realise his fiancee was nervous instead of merely stressed. Why? Tomorrow was really just a formality, wasn't it - they'd known for a while that they weren't easily parted. Was Makoto worried he'd leave her waiting?

Gently, he cupped her face. His hands were rough against her soft skin, but he knew Makoto wouldn't mind. Shin leaned forward and pressed a promise to her forehead, one he'd formalise tomorrow and remind her of every day they had together. He felt calm now; his smile came easier. His thumb pressed lightly over her lips, and then he let Makoto go.

He didn't need to say anything. One of the things he loved about her was that she understood him implicitly. Makoto's own smile firmed, and she turned for bed without a word. Shin followed suit; it wouldn't do to sleep in and be late for his own wedding, after all.

Network Sample: [ Shin Seijurou inspects the weird device he'd found curiously.

It has buttons.

He presses one.

Immediately half the station goes dark. Alarms and klaxons sound; people with guns turn out and run down hallways, suspecting terrorist sabotage. Shin ignores them, looking at the device. It's now in two neat pieces in his hands. ]

Oh. How strange.

[ Calmly, he finds a little niche out of the corner. While he's still no closer to figuring out what the thing was for, it'll serve as a training tool for now. Shin grips a piece between thumb and forefinger of each hand and proceeds to do some pretty impressive handstand push-ups off them while around him Omega Station just sort of starts its slow descent into technological death.

(It's not his fault. For all he knows, this is normal. And there's no time like the present to try some new training techniques.) ]

Personality: From a superficial look, Shin Seijurou doesn't come across as a particularly complex young man. He's quiet to the point of stoicism, not one to initiate much social interaction beyond necessity. Indeed, until the beginning of his high school career Shin had never really made any friends, his classmates generally just writing off his silent presence. This had never really bothered him - Shin isn't the type to miss what he's never had. He's well-mannered and considerate, humble and hard-working. Truthfully, he hits most of the standards of a perfect 'Knight', albeit with a certain lack of charisma.

However, he and one of his classmates got themselves enabled into joining the school's American Football team, and there Shin found his niche. With natural talent and his wide streak of determination, he quickly made himself indispensible to the team, earning their respect and admiration. One might forgive Shin for getting himself a big head over this, but even after being named MVP of the Tokyo Fall Tournament he remains almost painfully modest, stating "I'm not at the level of being able to list my own strong points." From the moment he joins Oujou's White Knights, he becomes even more dedicated to his physical training than he had been previously (and he was already in pretty damn fine shape to begin with). Alongside his strict training regimen Shin maintains a harsh diet, taking nutrition pills and supplements instead of meals. To him, American Football is the most serious business of all; his life has no placce for anything else.

Despite this Shin is not a cold person. He cares for his teammates, even if he is honest to the point of bluntness (such as his stark affirmation of a depressed Sakuraba's realisation that his presence wouldn't have made the team play any better). He's not good at expressing his affection, being so socially inept, poor Sakuraba notably taking the brunt of this when Shin attempted a traditional teammatey fistbump but instead socked his buddy firmly in the chest at full, terrifying strength. On the rare occasion that Oujou faces a loss, he takes it hard and feels that he has let the team down. Shin also develops a rivalry with the runningback of the Deimon Devil Bats, which is basically friendship despite how seriously they both take it, and after Oujou's loss to the DDB Shin actually smiles for the first time in the series. His teammates remark that this is the first time he's looked like he's having fun while playing; it's not a stretch to put this down to his satisfaction at having such a strong opponent to pit himself against and the realisation that he can test himself against Sena for ever and ever, as well as a bit of pride in his friend.

Shin also has a few fairly ridiculous quirks that lighten his serious personality. He is completely and utterly useless with technology, breaking anything he gets his hands on within seconds and without even seeming to realise that this is his fault. Casualties of note include a video camera (he went to adjust the screen and broke it clean off), a Nintendo DS (similar deal), a GPS (he tried to unfold it like a regular map and exclaimed at how weird it was) and the laptop he was given as Tokyo MVP. He just cannot seem to comprehend this stuff. He also has a habit of using anything - and I mean anything, from giant bulls-head statues to mechanical pencils - as a training tool. One-handed vertical press-ups twenty feet about the ground on a giant nose-ring? Good times! Shin's crazy like that. Somewhat related is the fact that he recognises people not by face, but by their muscles. Sakuraba changes his kyaa-idol!hairstyle and grows some stubble, Shin doesn't even notice. In fact, he's the first person to recognise Sena without his namesake eyeshield on, before even Sena's teammates. This is how Shin Seijurou rolls, ladies and gentlemen. By the end of the manga he's really starting to lighten up, even justifying a pillow-fight as 'suitable; a moderate warm-up and going to be early the day before a match is optimal' so that everyone can have fun together without feeling like dweebs.

He's smart, though, edging up right near 'genius' level on his exam results. Shin's intelligence is most usually displayed in his quick reactions to surprises on the field and his shrewd evaluations of situations and people - as stated by his coach, Shin will neither underestimate nor overestimate anybody. He's an excellent strategist and actually a pretty good leader (and in fact takes over as captain after the seniors' last game), because he's the kind of guy everyone on the team trusts and relies on. He's very much a lynchpin, although his teammates don't use him as a crutch. Possibly because they know that he feels that, while it's fine to be counted on, it's another to let everyone slack off like that. As far as Shin's concerned, everyone has a part to play and his is no greater or lesser than any other.

Extra:
Character Abilities: Shin is described several times through the series as 'Japan's perfect linebacker'. To back this up he's amassed a few specialities of his own:
Lightspeed Run - Shin is capable of running the 40-Yard Dash in 4.2 seconds, and ranks as one of the 'Four Fastest in Japan'. Them's some good pins.
Spear Tackle - It's a one-armed tackle to the midsection. Combined with Shin being on the other end of it, it's been known to traumatise players so badly they never touch a ball again.
Twin-spear Tackle - Same as above, using both arms. Can be turned into a grabbing motion...yeah, Shin's hard to shake.
Trident Tackle - Basically a rugby-style goosestep combined with the Spear Tackle for a little extra 'oomph'. And by a little extra I mean Shin can basically tear you in two with this. Seriously.
Lightspeed Trident Tackle - He runs fast and tackles you like a pissed-off elephant. It'll hurt.
Possessions: The clothes on his back.
Anything else: Shin is notoriously bad with electronics and technology, to the point where he merely has to pick up a laptop to break it in half, or attempt to press a button on a vending machine for it to crack right open. And THIS is how the boy sees a laptop...yes, really.

Despite this, he's actually pretty close to genius-level smart somehow.

using only his thumbs.

neither the cold nor the water appear to bother him as he goes through the set - two-hundred-and-fourteen, two-hundred-and-fifteen, two-hundred-and-sixteen - uncaring of gawking passersby and the indifferent Locals. Shin is none too sure where this is or how he ended up here, but rushing around flailing won't help him much. in the meantime, he has training to do. he's no help to Sena if he can't even keep up this much of a routine, after all; in order to help him win the Christmas Bowl he'll train even in this odd place. if one extra hour of running helps him come up with a plan to give his-- friend, then it will all be worth it.

on the ground lie his shoes, socks, hoodie, t-shirt...and the poor half-crushed remains of his seal.]
